I had a former coworker who grew up in a house full of fear and unpredictability, and she became intensely self-focused, almost like control and superiority were her shield against ever feeling powerless again. Trauma doesn’t automatically create narcissism, but chaos, abuse, and emotional neglect can absolutely shape those defenses.
